From bestselling author, Lisa Lang Blakeney, comes a sweet and sexy standalone friends to lovers romance set in the world of professional football.

Two best friends. One fated romance. Diesel is the best friend & boy next door who got away.

Olivia
I was the new kid, in a small town, who didn’t fit in when I met Mason Bridgewater. He was big, bossy, and almost knocked me out cold when we first met.

Our friendship grew, and a love grew greater out of that, but now that I’ve ruined it. Will he ever speak to me again?

Mason
I was the golden boy, from a small town, whose entire world was rocked when I met Olivia Robertson. She talked differently, she acted differently, and I knew pretty quickly that I’d never meet a girl like her again.

Our friendship was unbreakable, our attraction undeniable, and our love unforgettable…or so I thought. The girl who meant everything. Threw me away like I meant nothing. Will she ever love me again?

Diesel can be read as a standalone romance. It is Book Three in The Nighthawk Series.

The summary reads as if the book begins when the two reconnect after their bad past. The story starts with their budding friendship, but each chapter skipped a few years of their lives. The changing point happened 30 pages from the end. There was no falling action. Mason and olivia didn’t even discuss their feeling or their past decisions. All they did was have passionate angry sex and then the book ended. There was so many unanswered questions after reading this book.

This is a fantastic book that I read in one sitting. We meet Olivia in present day, she has broken up with Diesel and hasn’t seen him in five years. Told in four quarters, we see how they met as children and it’s Olivia “Jersey Girl” who gives Mason his nickname “Diesel.” They were best friends who did everything together until college and life tore them apart and Diesel let her go after Olivia broke up with him so she wouldn’t hold him down. Present day, they are working at the same team and it’s game on.

I really loved Diesel, well until the end. Throughout the whole first 3/4 of the book I loved reading how Mason and Olivia grew up together, how their relationship grew, but also fell apart. Then we get to the end and it just seemed like it was rushed. It just didn’t seem real, what I mean is that as soon as they see each other they completely forget about everything bad that went on and are happy and complete again. No conversations on why or what happened went on between them. I just thought even just one more chapter where they could have talked and resolved things would have made it better. Other than this I loved this couple and their story.

Mason and Olivia share a long emotional past. Best friends and high school sweethearts that shared the same heart for years. When Mason gets his big chance in football, Olivia cuts him loose. A lot of drama leading up to that decision, and Olivia has never gotten over Mason. Five long years later, Mason is now Diesel, with a high profile pro football career that is on the brink of success or failure. Olivia is still not over him as they meet and have a second chance at love. As this story flips back and forth through time, my heart broke for Olivia and the choices she made. A well written heartfelt romance! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
