Description

In this heart-stopping novel by #1 New York Times bestselling author James Rollins, an elite team of ex-Special Forces soldiers turned scientific specialists must uncover a secret society and the treasure that could destroy the world.

When a group of parishioners are burned to death in a German cathedral, the U.S. sends in the Sigma force. The tragedy is more than a case of arson; someone has stolen the priceless treasure stored in the cathedral’s golden reliquary: the bones of the Biblical Magi, the legendary Three Kings.

Commander Logan Pierce, new to Sigma, will lead a team on the hunt for the Royal Dragon Court, a clandestine aristocratic fraternity of alchemists dating back to the Middle Ages, who seek to establish a New World Order using the mystical bones. The Sigma team will follow a labyrinth of clues leading from Europe’s gothic cathedrals, through the remnants of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, to a mystical place where science and religion will unite to unleash a threat not seen since the beginning of time itself.

For being being the second book in the series this book does a great job of not only putting concepts from the first book (Sandstorm) in the book but also keeping you just as enveloped as it as well. Slow start but a beautiful finish to tie it all together at the end.

And thought provoking. Having never traveled the world, I was a little lost with some of the geography and ancient history. But then why not read to become more enlightened. I also was interested in some of the Catholic dichotomy of the times and the Knights Templar.
  • An amazing thriller of historic proportions

This thriller has more twists and turns than the ancient stories that are revealed. At times difficult to follow, as there are plots within plots and the history and detail can sometimes obfuscate the thread of the story. However, high action, extensive international travel and clever use of history and alchemy keeps you guessing to the end. Written for a movie It could be re-titled "Jack Ryan in the alternative The Da Vinci Code".

Enjoyable read. Nice historical fiction without going overboard. I would read other works by this author. Recommended for escapism from the daily distractions.

Loved this book. The fiction, wrapped so skillfully around fact, is fast paced, entertaining and well written. Will be looking for more SIGMA Force books.

A little more detailed than usual for him, longer descriptions which I find boring, but overall pretty good.

First third was slow and full of toooo much detail. After that I couldn't put the book down. Great book full of history.

Really enjoyed this. It is fast paced with enough history to keep it possible. A lot of fun to read. I even did a little research in some of the books Rollins mentioned. But, best of all, it had an ending!
