The tie-in edition of the nine-part CBS All Access series starring Whoopi Goldberg, Alexander Skarsgard, and James Marsden.

When a man escapes from a biological testing facility, he sets in motion a deadly domino effect, spreading a mutated strain of the flu that will wipe out 99 percent of humanity within a few weeks. The survivors who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader. Two emerge--Mother Abagail, the benevolent 108-year-old woman who urges them to build a peaceful community in Boulder, Colorado; and Randall Flagg, the nefarious "Dark Man," who delights in chaos and violence. As the dark man and the peaceful woman gather power, the survivors will have to choose between them--and ultimately decide the fate of all humanity.

Read quickly, despite its length. Not as fascinating as when I read it as a kid. Changing the year to 1990 creates some odd discrepancies in the slang used, music references, clothing descriptions, etc.
  • Still Kings best work

The unabridged version is worth the time it takes to read. King takes extra effort to paint the post apocalyptic world he has created in sweeping detail.

I absolutely love this book. I have read it before and owned the book. I had a flood and lost all my Steven King books, and I had them all. It is a great story!!

Stephen King has a way with words. This story flowed. Excellent. A disturbing tale but written so well. Highly recommend.

The Stand has changed with time. Now I wish I haven’t donated my old hard cover to the library. After reading this version I would love to go back and read the original again. Just like any other book by the Man I loved it with the original characters and the way it was more about the people of the story and a lot of information about them.
