Description

When you’re living one step at a time, the next one could change your life…forever.

Love is the last thing on Jack Harrington’s mind when he sets out to meet Andi Walsh’s flight. Recently back to work after spending more than a year tending to his comatose wife, Jack is focused on getting through each day and caring for his three daughters. However, the moment he sets eyes on Andrea Walsh, the interior designer who has come to decorate the hotel his company is building in Newport, Rhode Island, Jack begins to wonder if Andi might be his second chance.

After a disastrous marriage, Andi, single mom to a hearing-impaired son, isn’t exactly looking for love, either, but that’s what she finds with Jack. The two embark on a long-distance relationship fraught with challenges as they balance the needs of their children and dueling careers while Jack continues to care for his wife, Clare. Just when Jack thinks his life is once again settled, he is confronted with a new challenge that tests him in ways he never could've imagined, leaving him to wonder if "happily ever after" is in the cards for him.

"This isn't your typical romance where you're positive you're going to get the happy ending you were hoping for at the beginning. It will rip your heart out at times and having you weeping for joy at others. A stunning story about learning to love again and learning when to let go to those you love." A Reviewer Top Pick at Night Owl Reviews.

"Treading Water is a definite must read! Treading Water creates an emotional firestorm within the reader. It shines the light on the good and the bad in life and proves that one moment can change everything and it’s never too late to find love. Marie Force grabbed my heart and squeezed every ounce of emotion out of it but most importantly her monumental story left me blissful. Treading Water may be fiction but it gives me hope; hope in everyday people and happily ever after. I cannot wait for the next book in this trilogy, Marking Time." —Joyfully Reviewed, a "Recommended Read" for November 2011!

I don’t understand all the positive reviews and the applause to Jack for being a wonderful husband. Is his affair acceptable because she was in a coma? If she had been dying of cancer or away on a mission trip would it have been acceptable? Everyday people suffer through all sorts of illnesses and sickness with their loved ones without having an affair. In three years, he meets a woman and knocks her up. That really isn’t a long time considering he was supposed to be such a wonderful husband and so in love with his wife of 20 years. This story would’ve been more acceptable if it had been written that a Jack was an a** and Andi was a home wrecker because at least that would’ve been honest. Clearly through all of his sitting by his wife’s bed, he didn’t want to be married because he moved on quickly and couldn’t wait to get a divorce. I feel sorry for Clare who still loves him. I think Jack and Andi are weak, disloyal, and incapable of true love...they deserve one another. What an example they set for the kids, especially to move into the wife’s house/bed and start playing house. Ugh!!!!!

This Is the first time I have ever written a book review in my life. I have tried to read this book four times and failed. I did go on to read the other books in the series and did enjoy them. This book leaves me sad and disappointed that you place so little value on the marriage vows. How shallow of you.

I stumbled across your Gansett Island Series. Loved it so much, I read The Quantum books. Now I come across this because it just has to be good; it’s written by you!! Wow, this book was phenomenal. Heartbreakingly beautiful. Gave me anxiety, super highs and lows, made me laugh, cry- the whole gamut of emotions. What a book

I don't say this about most reads but this one was spectacular. The character development was wonderful & in depth for almost all the characters. The love & romance of Jack & Andi was perfectly paced. The family dynamics were intriguing. I was never bored. There were sappy parts but they weren't to hard to swallow when you looked at the overall picture. They were good people in unfortunate situations & I rooted for them all the way. Walked away very satisfied.

Lovely & nice--maybe too nice. Have liked other Marie Force books much better. Don't get me wrong, the book was fine if you are looking for a 'vanilla' story.
