Description

Poverty and deprivation were twin curses that Sohan Lal’s children faced growing up in Delhi. Sohan Lal was an honest lowly clerk, derisively called Minister of Garbage because he was a sanitary inspector. His job was to ensure that the sanitation workers cleaned the streets and the public toilets. Anuj the younger son of Sohan Lal resented the lavish lifestyle of his uncle Ram Charan. Ram Charan though a clerk enjoyed the perks of being a clerk in the sales tax department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Ram Charan got his cut without any problems. Sohan Lal was abused by the public. Anuj confronted his father one day. Why can’t you be like uncle Ram Charan? Why can’t you take bribes? Why can’t we eat ice cream every week, Anuj asked? Sohan Lal calmly told Anuj his younger son, I don’t take bribes. I want you to study and become somebody. Anuj was determined to be like his uncle but Ajay his elder brother showed him the power of education.  Ajay topped the twelfth class board examinations. Suddenly Ajay became the darling of all the students, teachers, and Principal of the Government School. Principal Tota Ram told the students of the Government school, all of you can become Ajay. Years later, Ajay became the most expensive and effective lawyer in Delhi. Once, Ajay could not speak English. A year after joining college, Ajay mastered English. The brothers had to share their clothes once. They depended on Government scholarships to fund their studies. Anuj became a high-ranking police officer, while Ajay became a top lawyer. Despite their hard work and success, Anuj was denied his well-deserved elevation as a Judge of the Delhi High Court. The girl he loved would not marry him because of his family background. Ajay a lawyer had to fight to get Justice. In this family saga, Justice becomes a casualty for a long time, till Anuj the younger brother confronted the man who denied his brother Justice.
