Description

This volume, entitled “Classics of Slavery by Solomon Northup, Harriet Beecher Stowe and Frederick Douglass,” contains three complete works:

“Narrative of Solomon Northup,” by Solomon Northup, is the basis for the highly acclaimed and Oscar-nominated motion picture: “12 Years as a Slave.”  It is a rarely told story of the kidnapping of a free black man from the north, his life after he was sold into slavery, and his miraculous path to freedom.

“Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” by Harriet Beecher Stowe, was a major factor in the acceleration of the abolitionist movement in the United Sates prior to the Civil War.  Solomon Northup describes the influence this book had on the publication of his own story.

“My Bondage and My Freedom,” by Frederick Douglass, describes his own escape from slavery and his involvement as a leader of the abolitionist movement.
