Description

"The place was Rizal Park in the Archdiocese of Manila. The date February 18, 1981. Lorenzo Ruiz’ long journey from the hill at Nagasaki to the honors of the altar had taken 344 years, but it was over at last."

First published in 1982, "The Making of the First Filipino Saint" gives a first-person account of the little known events from the search and discovery to the eventual beatification of Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint. This book narrates in intimate details the Vatican's circuitous and often politically-charged nomination, review, and confirmation processes in the selection and proclamation of new saints.

The author, Antonio C. Delgado, was the Philippine Ambassador to the Holy See during the periods covered in this book. He died in December 7, 1992.

The Ala-ala Foundation, established and managed by the former ambassador's family, owns the copyright to his book and has commissioned its re-publication.
