Chapter Summary 
Ajay is a lonely man living in Alice, who feels that he does not belong there ever since his wife passed away in an accident. He does not really connect to many people, the exceptions being his sister-in-law, her husband and writer, and a policeman. His life changes forever when in a drunk moment, he takes his precious copy of Tamerlane out of the security case and leaves it out while he blacks out. Since he had been saving Tamerlane for the future as retirement security, it leaves Ajay devastated. But it also shakes him up and he begins to take more interest in managing his bookshop. He also starts running in the evenings for his health, and cuts down on his drinking... 

Editor’s Notes: 
Amelia Loman is the new sales representative who has to sell books to Island Books. She is taking the place of the late Harvey Rhodes. She does not get along with Fikry on their first meeting because he shuts her down no matter what she suggests. She finds him rude even though she is able to appreciate his taste in books. 
After she leaves, the book turns to AJ’s home life and we see that he had enjoyed his brief meetings and discussions with Rhodes and part of the reason why he gives Amelia a hard time is because he is stunned at the news of Rhodes’ death.
