The Art of Prophesying is a classic work by the puritan, William Perkins. This text still speaks today for its pragmatic guidelines on expository preaching. Rather than relying on lavish methods, Perkins advocated a kind of "studied plainness" towards the Scriptures which better facilitated the ministry of Word and Spirit in the Church
