Description

The inspiring story of Preformed Line Products: The Connection You Can Count On® chronicles the challenges and triumphs of Preformed Line Products (PLP), an innovative supplier of infrastructure solutions led by three visionary leaders since its founding—Thomas F. Peterson, Jon R. Ruhlman, and Robert G. Ruhlman.

In 1947, Thomas F. Peterson founded PLP when he saw a need for a product that did not yet exist. The success of his groundbreaking mechanically formed helical design, a sturdier conductor for utility transmissions lines, was nearly thwarted by his former employer who passed on his idea, thinking it unnecessary. Despite the rejection, Peterson pressed on and began licensing his helical design to several companies. Ironically, one of those companies later began selling Peterson’s products to his former employer.

The PREFORMED™ Armor Rod, as it would officially be named, would become the flagship product of what is a highly recognized international company that offers an array of innovative critical infrastructure solutions. After Peterson’s passing in 1962, his son-in-law, Jon Ruhlman, was named president of PLP. Ruhlman was credited with taking the company far beyond its early successes due to his breadth and depth of knowledge of the industry.

Today, Ruhlman’s son, Robert G. Ruhlman, is PLP’s chairman, president, and CEO. Under his leadership, the company has remained steadfast in promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship, cutting-edge innovation, and commitment to customer service, which have made PLP the company it is today.

Building on Tom Peterson’s legacy, PLP and its dedicated team have continued to bring revolutionary ideas to the energy and communications industry, simply by identifying a problem and developing a solution that addresses it better than anyone else. That is PLP’s legacy and this is their story.

This enhanced eBook features video links and embedded audio quotes from executives, retirees, and key stakeholders who were interviewed during the research for this book.
