Description

Meal planning in college sure has come a long way. I can remember during my time in college, dinners consisted of easy microwave oven macaroni and cheese and lots and lots of ramen noodles. Food choices have certainly evolved and the desire to eat healthy has become important to everyone.

We now understand how eating the right foods can affect not only how we feel, but also how we think. Food is indeed the fuel we need so it’s important that we make the right food choices.

This college recipe collection was created because of a need I saw in my own children when they were away at school. On many occasions, I would ask them what they were eating and their answers varied from cereal to plain rice to yes, even ramen. I wondered why they hadn’t simply absorbed the knowledge of how to cook just by being in the kitchen with me. I had to teach them and in this case, I had to teach them from a distance.

Based on the need I saw in my own children, I decided to start a special section on my food blog, ZagLeft devoted to college students. Every Monday, I post a new recipe complete with pictures and instructions and once a month, I post a weekly meal plan along with a grocery list. This section has proved to be very successful and the response we’ve gotten from college students, from parents of college students and even from recent college graduates who still look forward to the recipes has been overwhelming.

That’s why we’ve decided to compile a list of 30 of our kitchen tested, viewer approved college student recipes in one place. These recipes usually don’t require very many ingredients, they’re easy to prepare and they’re nutritious.

You don’t have to be an experienced cook to use these recipes. Let these recipes be your guide if you’re just learning to navigate the kitchen or let them serve as inspiration in your journey to be a better cook.
