I would recommend this book to anyone, I loved it. It’s a powerful book that is wonderfully written. Beautiful characters, I loved the relationships between them, some that were established and some that changed and grew over the story. And I loved the glimpse into the present day, which was sadly not the outcome I expected. I’ve read a lot of WWII fiction, this is one of my favorites. It’s hard to imagine what people went through and what you would have done had you been in their situation. I would like to this I would follow the example set by Isabelle or Vianne.

  • Historical soap opera?

I’m not a book snob by any means, but this was more similar to a soap opera than a good historical fiction, which I thought I was getting into. It’s entertaining to some degree, but some of the details don’t line up with the era the book took place in and it has a lot of cliches.

This story took its time to unravel and by the middle I couldn’t put it down. As a Jewish woman and a human being, I look at the world wondering what is to become of us all. Most of us have not lived through wartime and after reading this vivid story, I hope we never do. This story reinvigorated my faith in my own courage and everyone else’s.

One of the best books I have ever read. Towards the end I could not put the book down. This book will stay with you, move you, and possibly make you cry. Whenever I think I have it rough all I have to do is think of the The Nightingale and life is not that bad.
