Description

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Starts with Us and All Your Perfects, a “brave and heartbreaking novel that digs its claws into you and doesn’t let go, long after you’ve finished it” (Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author) about a workaholic with a too-good-to-be-true romance can’t stop thinking about her first love—soon to be a major motion picture starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

An honest, evocative, and tender novel, It Ends with Us is “a glorious and touching read, a forever keeper. The kind of book that gets handed down” (USA TODAY).

  • Immature all around

The plot of the book itself isn’t bad but the execution misses a lot of key points. The characters have good depth and I liked the perspective changes that happen while reading but overall the book sounds like it was written by a middle schooler. The immature writing style combined with the lack of creativity in the current perspective, make the book difficult to enjoy or finish. While cringing the entire way through due to the writing style, the romanticization of abusive themes and how they are so ignored at times just show the damaged perspective and give the wrong feedback to the audience. As a young reader, it would have been more impactful to see the main character really stand up for herself and take legal actions against someone who physically and sexually assaulted her instead of allowing him to father her child. Colleen Hoover’s book was very disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone to read. I wouldn’t advise this for anyone who wants a true romance, smut, or other enjoyable or deep touching plot lines.

Many women and men find out after the fact that the person they are living with is not who they thought they were. Sometimes it becomes a dangerous situation. Don’t feel like you’ve failed. Some people need help that is beyond your skill set. Know when you have had enough and let that person get professional help. It’s okay to extinguish the fire. Don’t get burned up in the process. This book touches on a relationship that goes through the process of identifying and understanding what to do in a volatile situation with someone you love. Excellent story and a great read!
