Description

In 1992, I left London and moved to Hong Kong. I had become an emigre, an ex-pat, an escapee or, in the words of some, FILTH: failed in London, try Hong Kong. Across the years, I wrote prose pieces for a projected book, and a series of letters to friends and family that I called View From The Peak. Both prose and letters I have stitched together in this Volume 26 of the SAGUS series. There is, though, one difference to the others: this volume includes no photographs and is pure text. (Though hopefully without cod-Proustian long-windedness.) Instead the photographs from the period are published in a series of single-subject books called Monographs and Photographs, which can be found listed in the bibliography at the end. I was still working for Saatchi & Saatchi when I flew out of England but this is a volume that is less about work, and more about my discovery of a wholly new world. (The work is detailed in another series of books called the Saatchi & Saatchi Anthology - again details can be found in the bibliography.) In the end, I wrote eight ‘Views’ that stretched from 1993 to 1998.
