Description

Book 2 in the USA TODAY Bestselling Series: Six months ago, a plane crash altered the course of Sasha McCandless's professional and personal life. Now she's focused on building her solo law practice and tending her budding relationship with Leo Connelly.

When Sasha drives from Pittsburgh to rural Clear Brook County to argue a discovery motion, she finds a town bitterly divided over hydrofracking the Marcellus Shale. Outsiders from the oil and gas industry and environmental activists threaten to rip apart the community's fabric.

Then the town's only judge is murdered, and Sasha can't just walk away.

Normally I never read a book in on day. I read other reviews saying "a page turner" or "couldn't put it down". Well this was both to me and I just couldn't put it down until o finished. Great story!!

Contemporary topics. Intelligent and humorous conversations. Love the lawyer character. Reading the third in the series now. Can't put these stories down. Want to get away from the TV and computer? Just pick up the first novel in this series!!!

Good writing should not reveal the sex of the author. Unfortunately, this book was clearly written by a woman. Remove 25% of the fluff (cook the dinner, save and store the dinner, travel with the dinner, return home with the dinner, describe the dinner each time, and, at long last, eat the freaking dinner; then, clean up after the dinner, and to make sure everything is really perfect, be sure the boyfriend cooks the dinner...Jeesh!) Add to this disappointing fluff the fact that our protagonist has suddenly lost her ability to recognize the obvious, and the reader is left with mediocrity. I had really hoped the second book in this series would be a 5 star (the first was a 4). Instead, the author has stepped backward by one star. I'll try one more book, then I am out. Please don't let me down.

After the first book, I bought and read the whole series. Melissa Miller has created a likable strong female lead, as well as a great cast of supporting characters. It's so nice to find a female protagonist who can take care of herself but is still feminine and loves her man. Can't wait for the next book!
  • A Fun Protagonist

Ms. Miller's writing is a little rough around the edges in some spots. However, this book is better than her first one. I'm sure the next one will continue this writing improvement. More importantly, the story/plot is good and suspenseful. Plus, she's created an interesting, fun protagonist.

Full of suspense--great! And a strong, capable female protagonist is a breath of fresh air. Keep writing this series, Melissa!
